2017 Builds

Postby blakeh1 » January 2nd, 2018, 11:15 pm

It was a pretty productive year for me.

I really pushed myself to thin out the stash as models look much better on display than in the boxes.

I've also got a good jump on this year with the 11" and 22" Eagles started as well as the 1/72 Bandai Falcon and the 1/1000 Lambea tri-deck carrier

Old non-scale Earth Defense Ships and the small non-scale mecha bonus kits they come with from the classic "Star Blazers" (Space Battleship Yamato) Comet Empire series

Warmachine/Hordes gaming miniatures
Most of them are on 30 mm bases, the horses on 50 mm bases with a few like the chariot and the two "steam powered warmachines" being on larger bases
Some of these were only quickly painted to "table top" quality just so I could play them in tournaments that have a "fully painted" criteria or prize

If you have a tool and aren't aware of what it can do, its dangerous. A jedi can do amazing things with a lightsaber. A roomful of chimps with lightsabers... would get messy.

All finished in 2017

My goal is to try to at least finish one or two things a month. I got tired of seeing a closet and shelves full of boxes and procrastinating starting kits because I had to get his upgrade or detail set for it, or I wanted to make it perfect, or scratch build interiors etc...

If I did that I would never build half of what I have collected. So I have been doing mostly straight out of the box builds, skipping the lighting except for kits that include it, or kits that really call for it. Same with going all out super-detailing stuff. I save it for a few select kits that need it

Ideally I would completing more kits than I buy in a year

I've created a database I use to keep track of what kits I have, when I got them, how much I got them for, when I started working on it and when I finished it, plus some notes regarding paint mixes or techniques I used

It give me some motivation to finish them when I see how much in total I've paid for kits and how long they have been sitting around.

Amazing results in one year, personally I like your Yamato stuff

And good luck with your goal, it's the same with me but I always fail...
