Wrecked vehicle ideas??

Wrecked vehicle ideas??

Postby Unreality » January 21st, 2016, 4:39 pm

SO, I'm working on a wrecked AT-ST diorama, and I'll be unveiling another wrecked vehicle for the TFA buildoff, and I'm looking for ideas on what I can do to really sell the idea of a "wreck".

So far, I've doing blown-out panels, bent guns, blaster holes, general warpage/tearing of loose armor plates, open access panels with dangling wire. I'm also adding bits of armor and hoses to the surrounding area. For the TFA build, I'll probably add an empty pilot's helmet to the debris.

What are some other ideas you guys have for making something look wrecked/damaged?

Is it going to be a fresh wreck, or an old one?

If it's an old wreck, you can do lots of rust and looted parts.

Look online for pictures of wrecked tanks, you should be able to get a bunch of ideas from that too.

AT-ST will be newer. The TFA will be kinda old by about 29 years.

Tank wrecks are helpful, but anything specifically Star Wars-ish is what I'm looking for. Although, I do like the idea of looted vehicles...scavenged by a certain force-sensitive.

Not to be the morbid one in the crowd but considering it's going to be a newer wreck/knocked out vehicle what about a tastefully done body of a crewman and/or a Rebel fighter? I see this the odd time in armor dioramas where the modeler adds in a casualty or even a KIA but done in a respectful/non-gory fashion (in other words the viewer understands what's being portrayed without the need for gore...if this makes sense). One thing that struck me in watching TFA is how the First Order left their KIA's on the field. Would the Empire have done the same? When the Rebels hurriedly evacuated Hoth did they leave their KIA's behind? Another possibility is equipment, blasters, packs, kits etc strewn about as battlefield debris most often does.

Hope this was of some help. Sounds and looks like an awesome project!!

Cheers!
Don.

I've thought about that. Personally, I don't think I'll do bodies. It works for a battle scene, but for what I'm going for...well, I like to see the beauty in wrecks. Still, I may throw a blaster or helmet in there.

what do you think about a AT-AT base from some junk dealers?

Or you build Rey´s AT-AT home! There you can add perfectly a Rebell-helmet ;)

I really want to build Rey's home. I have all of the concept art, and I just love the design. Depending on how good the Dragon 1/35 AT-AT is, I may have to try.

Micromachines has reys snowspeeder and figures of Rey and BB-8 as well as one of Rey on her Speeder. They seem to be around HO scale (1/87) or smaller. That's in the range of the MPC At-At ( which I think is "officially" somewhere around 1/100)

Might be cheaper and save some display space
