Fine Molds 1/48 TIE info

Post by nicholassagan » February 25th, 2014, 8:01 pm

Hey guys, working on a conversion kit and I need to know what the wing joint looks like on the Fine Molds 1/48 TIE Fighter...if you have the kit can you post a pic of both the wing-side joint and the support arm? I'm most particularly interested in the locating/clipping pegs, shape of the recess on the wing side, etc. Or if it's a perfect scaled-up version of the 1/72 kit, what the wing-side hex recess measurement is...

I want to see what the Fine Molds announcement will be before I commit to any printing of parts, but right now I'm just working on a design for 1/48 TIE Interceptor wings to be used with both the AMT and Fine Molds kits.

I have the AMT kit so I just need to see the FM joint so I can design something compatible with both.

After that I might design a 1/48 TIE Droid conversion...

Man...you certainly are doing your best to make me branch out into a dozen different scales, aren't you? ;)

So the twin pack of Tie Fighters from AMT is 1/48?

Yes Scott it is! In fact, someone on SSM did a side-by-side build and you'd be hard pressed to find the differences...I think FM has more tiny parts and a nice cockpit, but after building it up you can't even tell.

Anyone have the 1/48 FM TIE?

Really? I would have thought that the FM version would be head and shoulders over the AMTs.

Haven't branched out into 1/48...trying to stick with the "other" five scales! :o

Cool! Thanks Del! Hatewall also send me some pics w/ calipers on it for the FM kit

Also, Stevewoo @ SSM posted his comparison build. The FM kit is on the left, which probably makes the AMT kit something like, oh I don't know, 1/50 or some such bullshit. But the resemblance is remarkable.
