Smuggler/Pirate XS Freighter

Post by Uwe Kaeding » December 7th, 2014, 2:46 am

Reading through the original comments/rules, it looked like previously started kits were Ok for this group build. That's great as I've already got too many projects on the go at the moment (lots being built but none getting finished) - this will give me incentive to at least finish one of them!

Any way here's one I've started but has been on the backburner a bit. It's Stefan's XS Freighter kit with a couple of cantina action scene figures for the crew. I've gotten as far as painting up and putting together the cabin (I went for the 1/72 option) and upper and lower turrets, adding the glazing, putting all the major bits together and filling some air bubbles and gaps with Aves.

Here are the main cockpit and turret parts painted, and the pilots:

The lower turret needed some extra support in the form of a styrene ring in order to fit it:

I used the window framing backed by some plasticine to form a vac-forming mould, which worked pretty well:

So here are the main parts together, except for the cabin and the engine parts and a start made on filling gaps:

I have also made some modifications to the second gun mount. As it will go on the side I wanted it to be a full circle rather than half, so I made a second semi circle and detailed it with styrene bits. I also added a wire pin so the gun wont fall of every time it gets a slight knock:

Next up some masking and primer.

Man, this thing rocks! I love this ship! I like your choices for the pilots, I can't wait to see it built up!

Great choices both ship and crew. Tons of scum in that cantina kit. :)

Uwe's been holding out on us! :o

I really need to get a hold of one of those cantina sets...if only for the figs. Those guys look great.
Need to build 30 models per year until I'm 90 to clean out the stash. Time to get cracking!

Yeah - some really nice figures in that set (and some pretty bad ones as well). I'm just waiting for a ship with a big enough cockpit to fit an ithorian or a Talz ;)

Anyway, a bit of progress - attached the cockpit and got it primed. Still some filling and sanding to do though.

For sure!

Going with the "standard" scheme?

No, it will be a variation, with the colours based on the two pilots. Still trying to work out the specifics though.
