1/12 Treadwell Droid

Post by Uwe Kaeding » June 29th, 2019, 7:50 am

I bought this 1/12 3D printed kit of the Treadwell droid from ANH. Made by Figureworks (I think they are only on Facebook). Its a nice simple kit but it was a limited run, so I'm not sure if its still available.
Anyway - here is the box:

Primed and sanded parts:

One issue I had with the kit was that the rollers and treads were printed attached to the side of the body, and you couldn't see through the treads below the main body. Therefore I cut the treads off both sides, sanded them back and opened them:

Also the body is hollow, with no bottom, so I added a base plate from sheet styrene:

The whip aerial at the back looked a bit thick so I cut away part of it and added steel wire (I also later added a bit of brass tube over the bottom part of the wire):

And here are all the parts painted and ready for assembly. I've made some axles and added them through holes drilled in the body.

The kit is all finished now, just waiting on some good photos to post in the finished section.

Sheesh. Looking good! They should post this as a thing on Shapeways or something. No need to limit the run of a 3D model!

Agreed - strange way to do business but they must have their reasons.
