FToys AT-AT diorama

Post by TCSloan » December 19th, 2014, 10:35 pm

Inspired by an RPFers awesome work on his dio..I had to get some of the Ftoys AT-ATs and give it a try. I just got 3 in and started work on them right away.
These things are pretty cool, and nicely detailed for their size.
Heres what Iev done so far..
I removed the leg union plates (hips) from the body in order to reposition the legs better. Also filling the seam down the middle.

I noticed the upper leg section is molded on the side of the knee joint instead of being in the center..so I cut all the joints off ,and I'll reposition those later on. They were easy to cut off without ruining the part. I just used an Xacto knife and a lot of care. I will also reposition some of the feet once I figure out how the legs will be positioned.

Im not sure how accurate in scale the FToys 1/144 line is, I ordered a set of AT-STs and some Snowspeeders, all 1/144 ..we'll see how they look compared to the ATSTs soon I hope.

Definitely following this thread... :D
Need to build 30 models per year until I'm 90 to clean out the stash. Time to get cracking!

thanks guys..heres a little bit more.. I got the leg positions figured out, and glued the upper legs back on. The lower legs got the added strip and the nub for the hydraulic rod to the feet. I'll add those next.

Cooooool!
Man, it would be great to see a dio with them anyplace other than Hoth!
You could get a bunch of alien gaming pieces (I think there are starship Troopers bugs in this scale, IIRC) and have the Empire on a "bug hunt"....or possibly get a bunch of plastic plants and airbrush them to look like the weird flora on Ryloth (as shown in the CW series many times).

Just ideas- looking forward to what you come up with!

I thought about doing a different scene besides Hoth, but I didnt want to get bogged down in creating a complex base, so I'll stick with the usual.. I did want to do a ROTJ scene later with the ladning platform..but thats a huge project to consider.
heres where Im at so far..
got all 12 little hydraulic parts made..this seemed like it took forever..

I have a pic on my PC I saved from I-don't-know-where that was a scratched, lit landing platform dio (which I assume was also done with the F-Toys models). If I can't track it down I'll put it on photobucket and post it here.

that would be real interesting to see if you can find it .

heres the AT-ST compared to the AT-AT...I 'think' it looks in scale...its really nicely detailed too..Id almost say better than the MPC kit. I havent added the weapons yet..workin on that now.
