Tie Bomber 1/72 Scratch Build

Post by moonhugger » March 11th, 2017, 3:02 am

Sorry to bombard the forum with another new topic. Hope you enjoy.

I realised the printer hadn't had much use since Christmas, the Death Star tiles are waiting on resin and the big Eagle needs better weather before attempting to paint further. I ended up mooching around on wookieepedia for something to have a go at.

The Tie Assault Bomber looked like something that would knockout in CAD fairly easily and at 1/72 pretty simple to print. It will need a bit of kit bashing to finish it.

Anyway WIP; first prints finished tonight.

Thanks.
Wing pylons to print next.
I use Solidworks and sometimes Fusion 360 to produce the CAD.

Very impressive! The prints looks to be of a very high resolution as well. Possibly even higher than shapeways. What are you printing with?

I print with a B9Creator. It runs a DLP projector to cure a liquid resin.
That print was done at 50micron layers and 70micron pixels.
The ribs are 0.5mm; they came out well, I am pleased with them. Thanks for the comment.
Shapeways do nice work; at least as good I think but very expensive!
Julian.

Really cool !
May I ask you why you have choose a B9creator in lieu of a FORM2 since they are in the "same" price range ? The price of consumable maybe ?
I'm actually thinking to replace my FDM printer for a SLA or DLP printer. If it's off topic I'll edit my message or if a moderator want to delete the comment it's ok.

At the time it was B9 or Form 1. The Form 1 had some mixed reviews and the B9 a bit quicker since it doesn't need to fill in areas with a small laser. The Form 2 has a bigger build area - that would temp me.

Ok I understand.
Yeah apparently the Form 1 was not reliable like the Form 2 is, there are some fine DLP printer like the Draken that are interesting too. The proprietary resin and the consumable resin tray on the Form 2 considerably change the running cost of a SLA printer.

Need a kit of this one! :D
Need to build 30 models per year until I'm 90 to clean out the stash. Time to get cracking!

I've been getting a lot of parts done on the Form2. Their v3 gray resin is TOPS ;)
