1/12 D-O Bandai Kit

Post by Uwe Kaeding » January 7th, 2020, 12:19 am

This is the D-O droid from The Rise of Skywalker, to be built pretty well out of the box, the only real change likely to be swapping out the oversized head aerials and using rare earth magnets to attach it to a new base.

First the kit aerials were glued in place and then sawed off at the base and replaced by steel wire with blobs of Krystal Kleer on the ends. I'm still not sure about the size of the end blobs - I may have to change them to something smaller:

The original prong used to connect the kit to the base was cut off and replaced by a 3mm rare earth magnet. Another one will be glued into the new base. Also the seams on the side of the head have been filled and sanded:

This one is currently in the painting stage, more soon.

I did end up replacing the Krystal Kleer blobs on the aerials - with small sections of fine brass tube. I think it looks much better:

Also - painting is underway.

Thanks RM - i agree, its definitely better like this. Anyway the main painting is done and everything glued together, just waiting on weathering now.
